We spend time thinking about what's on our plates. The ingredients, where they come from, how they're made. But what’s in our glass doesn’t get the same time of day.

Most of the time, the drink is an afterthought. It’s whatever’s in the fridge. But craft sodas are changing that, with drinks made with intention and chosen to complement what’s on your plate.

What is craft soda and what makes it different?

You might be thinking, hey a soda’s a soda, but when it comes to what’s actually in the can, there’s a pretty big difference.

Most conventional sodas are built on a simple formula: water, high-fructose corn syrup or artificial sweetener, synthetic flavours, and a handful of additives to hold it all together. They're engineered to taste the same every single time. Reliable, familiar, but not that interesting.

Craft soda takes a different approach. They are brewed with a love of flavour, a deep respect quality and a respect for traditional methods. Real organic ingredients. Natural flavours. And in the case of fermented sodas like Good Sodas™, natural processes. And we believe the extra effort is well worth it.

The result is a drink with genuine complexity: a subtle tang, layers of botanical flavour, and a natural sweetness that doesn't bulldoze everything else on the table.

It's the difference between something made with care and something manufactured for convenience.

Why craft sodas make for great food pairing

The whole point of good food pairing is to create a harmonious match between food and drink, where the flavours dance together and elevate each other.

Unfortunately conventional sodas don’t work like that. They are sweet. Very sweet. Often getting their sweetness from artificial sweeteners that cling to your taste buds and block the delicate flavours of your food. Essentially, they dull your taste palate and overall experience. Not what you want when so much effort has gone into making a great meal.

A good craft soda behaves differently. The authentic flavours of the real ingredients mingle with the flavours of your food. And the natural sweetness, from organic sugar in Good Sodas™ case, doesn’t hang around, meaning you get to taste the full flavour of your food from start to finish.

An alcohol-free food pairing you actually want to drink

When you think of food pairings, a wine list is usually the first thing that comes to mind, with possibly beer in second place. But there's a shift happening.

More people are choosing not to drink or drinking less. With the rise of the sober curious and mindful drinking movements, there’s a real shift towards being more intentional about alcohol consumption.

But the drink options haven't always kept up with that intention. Usually, you get to choose between a conventional soda or a glass of sparkling water. What’s been missing is something with real character — a drink you'd actually choose over a glass of wine, not just settle for.

That's another gap craft soda fills. And, although we might be biased, we think fermented craft soda fills it particularly well. The slight acidity produced during the fermentation process gives the soda a bit of an edge. A more grown up taste than something overwhelmingly sweet.

Good Sodas™ Flavour Pairing Guide

A messy table with half eaten plates of food and a can of Good Cola™

We've put together a simple guide for pairing your Good Sodas™ with your food, for flavour combos that simply work.

1. The Craft Cola Pairing

Good Cola™ has warm botanical notes that reveal themselves as you drink, complemented by citrus undertones, and a crisp, less-sweet finish.

The natural complexity of a fermented cola pairs peferctly with caramelized, savory, and smoky flavors. The natural acidity slices right through the richness of melted cheese or grilled meats without leaving that syrupy coating in your mouth.

The Food: Smoky BBQ, Woodfired Mushroom Pizza, or Burgers.

2. The Craft Lemon Pairing

Our Good Lemon™ soda is sharp, vibrant, and zesty. Think of this soda as sunshine in a can and the ultimate palate cleanser. Its bright acidity cuts beautifully through heavy cream or olive oil, while acting like a fresh squeeze of lemon over seafood or Mediterranean dishes.

The Food: Fish Tacos, Creamy Cacio e Pepe, or Meze Platter (Hummus & Falafel).

3. The Craft Orange Pairing

Good Orange™ captures the complex, vibrant oils of the citrus peel and the juicy tartness of the fruit, making it incredibly versatile.

Orange loves a bit of heat and spice. The citrus notes pop against savory pork dish or spicy ginger and chili profiles found in Asian cuisine.

The Food: Spicy Thai Noodles (like Pad See Ew), Carnitas, or BBQ chicken.

Your glass deserves something Good™

The craft movement has already transformed how we think about coffee, bread, cheese, chocolate. We got curious about where things come from, how they're made, what's actually in them. Now it's sodas turn.

Good Sodas™ started from the simple idea that a soda can be more. That it should be made with the same care and intention as anything else on a well considered table.

Because when the food is Good™, the drink should be too.
